What is a Four-column Hydraulic Press? Working Principle and Application

Aug 18, 2022

Four Column Hydraulic Press

As an important production tool, the four-column hydraulic press has a considerable market demand.

This article will introduce the characteristics, applications and working principles of the four-column hydraulic press, hoping to be helpful to you.

Introduction of hydraulic press

Four Column Hydraulic Press

Also known as hydraulic press, it is a machine that uses Pascal's law to use hydraulic transmission, and there are many types. Of course, users can also diversify according to their needs. Of course, users can also diversify according to their needs. For example, there are two types of hydraulic presses and hydraulic presses, depending on the type of liquid that transmits pressure. The total pressure generated by the hydraulic press is large and is often used in forging and stamping. Forging hydraulic press is divided into die forging hydraulic press and free forging hydraulic press.

What is a four-column hydraulic press

Four-column hydraulic press The 4-column press is a vertical hydraulic press with guide platens powered by hydraulic cylinders.

The platen features bronze bushings that ride on four hard chrome-plated steel posts. The oil pump that delivers hydraulic oil to the integrated cartridge valve block. The hydraulic oil is distributed to the upper chamber or the lower chamber of the cylinder through each one-way valve and relief valve, and the cylinder is driven by high pressure oil. A hydraulic press is a device that uses liquid to transmit pressure. When a liquid transmits pressure in an airtight container, it obeys Pascal's law.

The composition of the four-column hydraulic press

The four-column hydraulic press consists of two parts: the main engine and the control mechanism. The main parts of the hydraulic press include hydraulic cylinders, beams, columns and liquid filling devices. The power mechanism consists of a fuel tank, a high-pressure pump, a control system, a motor, a pressure valve, and a reversing valve.

Four-column hydraulic press features

Generally speaking, four-column hydraulic presses offer higher precision.

The machine has independent power mechanism and electrical system, and adopts button centralized control, which can realize manual and semi-automatic adjustment of three working modes. The working pressure, pressing speed, no-load quick drop and deceleration stroke and range of the machine can be adjusted according to the needs of the process to complete the ejection process. There are three types of ejection process: ejection process and stretching process. The process is constant pressure. There are two process actions available for constant pressure.

Durmark's four-column hydraulic presses have the following features.

  • Extra long rails with large load ratio
  • Heavy Duty, Strain Relief, Precision Machined, Fabricated Frame
  • Removable T-slot pads available
  • Electro-hydraulic programmable control
  • Large diameter hard chrome plated guide rod
  • Overhead maintenance mezzanine
  • Dual anti-tether, anti-repeat ergonomic touch buttons
  • Stroke control
  • Fully automatic cycle
  • Quick Die Change System

The working principle of the four-column hydraulic press

The hydraulic transmission system of the four-column hydraulic press consists of a power mechanism, a control mechanism, an executive mechanism, an auxiliary mechanism and a working medium. The power mechanism usually uses an oil pump as the power mechanism, generally an integrated oil pump. In order to meet the speed requirements of the actuator, one oil pump or multiple oil pumps can be selected.

A motor-driven pump delivers hydraulic fluid through a hose to the hydraulic cylinder, which provides fluid power to the hydraulic cylinder. After that, in order to deliver the fluid to the cylinder, the fluid must pass through the valve and hose. This is where hydraulic energy is converted back into mechanical energy. Additionally, valves direct the flow of liquids and relieve pressure when needed.

It can be used for pressure processing and forming of various plastic materials, such as extrusion, bending, stretching of stainless steel plates and cold pressing of metal parts. It can also be used for pressing powder products, grinding wheels, bakelite and resin thermosetting products.

Application of four-column hydraulic press

The 4-column hydraulic press frame design is a versatile design suitable for a wide range of applications and industries. Four-column presses will accommodate a wide variety of die sizes and are available in virtually any desired bed size. These open 4-column hydraulic presses allow four-sided access to the work area and are generally more economical than straight-sided presses.

Standard four-column presses are manufactured for a variety of applications in metalworking and plastic forming, among other fields, and are designed to perform the following processes with extreme precision:

  • Deep drawing
  • Metal forming
  • Stamping
  • Component assembly
  • Compression molding
  • Extrusion
  • Trimming
  • Coining
  • Hydroforming
